Writing an Informal Letter about Moroccan Culture – 2nd BAC Student-friendly + Arabic شرح

In Unit 6 (Culture), many 2nd BAC exam tasks ask you to write an informal letter to a foreign friend about Moroccan culture. This guide shows you what to write and how to organize your letter so you can get a better mark in the national exam.

في الوحدة السادسة حول الثقافة، يُطلَب من تلاميذ الثانية باك كثيرًا كتابة رسالة شخصية غير رسمية لصديق أجنبي عن الثقافة المغربية. هذا الشرح يساعدك على فهم ماذا تكتب وكيف ترتب الرسالة لتحصل على نقطة جيدة في الامتحان الوطني.

1. What is the task? ما هو المطلوب؟

A typical exam question is something like:

Your foreign friend wants to know more about Moroccan culture. Write an informal letter to describe some aspects of Moroccan culture and give examples from daily life.

غالبًا يكون الموضوع على هذا الشكل:
صديقك الأجنبي يريد أن يعرف أكثر عن الثقافة المغربية. اكتب له رسالة شخصية تشرح فيها بعض جوانب هذه الثقافة، وتقدّم أمثلة من الحياة اليومية.

In your letter you must...
Write to a friend: use a friendly tone (not formal).
Use simple English: short sentences, correct grammar.
Describe culture: eating habits, clothes, greetings, values...
Give examples: real examples from Moroccan daily life.

في رسالتك يجب أن:
- تكتب لصديق وبأسلوب ودّي.
- تستعمل لغة إنجليزية بسيطة وجملاً واضحة.
- تشرح بعض جوانب الثقافة المغربية.
- تعطي أمثلة حقيقية من الحياة اليومية.

2. Ideas about Moroccan culture أفكار عن الثقافة المغربية

Here are some ideas you can use in your informal letter. You do not need to use all of them, but try to choose at least three aspects.

Eating habits – عادات الأكل
Moroccans often eat from one big plate, especially with couscous and tajine. They usually eat with the right hand and say “Bismillah” before eating. المغاربة غالبًا يتقاسمون طبقا واحدا كبيرا، خاصة مع الكسكس والطاجين، ويأكلون باليد اليمنى ويقولون بسم الله قبل الأكل.
Greetings – التحية
People say “Salam Alaikum” and answer “Wa Alaikum Salam”. They shake hands and sometimes hug friends or relatives. Young people often kiss their parents’ hands or heads to show respect. نقول السلام عليكم ووعليكم السلام، نصافح الناس، وأحيانًا نعانق الأصدقاء والأقارب، ويُقبّل الكثير من الشباب يد أو رأس الوالدين تعبيرًا عن الاحترام.
Clothes – اللباس
In daily life, many Moroccans wear modern clothes. On special occasions and religious celebrations, they wear traditional clothes like jellaba, gandoura and caftan. في الحياة اليومية نرتدي ملابس عصرية، لكن في الأعياد والمناسبات نلبس الجلباب، القندورة، القفطان… وهذا يعبر عن هويتنا المغربية.
Values – القيم
Important values in Moroccan culture are hospitality, respect for parents and solidarity. People welcome guests warmly, help their parents and support neighbours and poor families. من أهم القيم المغربية: الضيافة، احترام الوالدين، التضامن. نستقبل الضيوف بحرارة، نساعد الوالدين، ونتضامن مع الجيران والفقراء.

3. Layout of the informal letter شكل الرسالة غير الرسمية

Parts of the letter
Date (التاريخ): optional, at the top.
Greeting (التحية): Dear + name
Opening (مقدمة): say hello, ask about your friend, explain why you write.
Body (العرض): 2–3 short paragraphs about culture (food, greetings, clothes, values…).
Closing (الخاتمة): friendly ending sentence.
Signature (التوقيع): your first name.

الرسالة غير الرسمية تتكوّن من: التاريخ (اختياري)، التحية، مقدمة قصيرة، فقرات العرض، خاتمة، ثم التوقيع بالاسم الشخصي.

4. Model informal letter about Moroccan culture نموذج رسالة

Dear Lisa,

How are you? How is your family? I hope you are all fine and happy. I am writing this letter to tell you a little about Moroccan culture.

First, concerning eating habits, Moroccans usually share food from one big plate and eat with the right hand. People often say “in the name of Allah” before they start eating, and they wash their hands before and after meals. Our traditional dishes include couscous, tajine and pastilla, and we often drink mint tea when we have guests.

As for greetings, Moroccans normally shake hands and sometimes hug close friends and relatives. We also kiss our parents’ hands or heads to show respect. When you visit a Moroccan family, they will welcome you warmly and insist that you eat and drink.

Regarding clothes, people wear modern clothes every day, but many men and women still wear traditional clothes like jellaba and gandoura on special occasions and religious celebrations.
